TL Guild
The <LIQUID> guild, Math of Exile, is open to any Teamliquid users. We have a decent number of both SC and HC players. Though our activity drops down later in a league, beginning of the league is super active and hype. Best thing about the guild is that you can for the most part trust everybody; people are friendly, give build advice, trade fairly, share masters / loot / maps, progress together, etc.
No rules except general TL decency. We've never had a problem with guild stash robbery or scamming, and don't expect to have any such problems in the future. To join, drop a comment in the thread with your IGN, or message one of the following officers (should be active beginning of next league)

Path of Exile is an ARPG made by Grinding Gear Games, inspired by classic games like Diablo 2. Exiled to the dangerous and desolate Wraeclast, you struggle first to survive, then to conquer. PoE is perhaps the most complex and difficult ARPG around, but that depth makes it one of the most rewarding and fun ARPG experiences ever.

Core Features
7 Classes, 19 Ascendencies, No Limits
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://webcdn.pathofexile.com/image/classes/class_select.jpg?v=4)
PoE has 7 character classes, each representing some combination of the three core attributes: Strength, Dexterity, and Intelligence. Though each class resembles typical RPG archetypes like a Warrior or a Wizard, the game is designed so that every class can potentially do anything, if built correctly. For example, the Witch, who looks like a typical spellcaster, can be a potent bow character, an elemental sword wielder, or even a claw toting melee badass.
The Marauder
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/SNHBjJy.png)
Strength based. A proud warrior of the Karui, respectful towards the ancestors and tribal spirits of his people, and brutally merciless towards his enemies.
The Duelist
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/baI7TpJ.png)
Strength/Dexterity based. An inimitable swordsman of both great talent and charm, though his quick anger and haughty pride are what ultimately forced him into exile.
The Ranger
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/QgQYBBH.png)
Dexterity based. A huntress of the wild who has spurned human society, believing it to be wasteful and corrupt. A true believer in independence and the value of the natural world.
The Shadow
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/cH4tSLQ.png)
Dexterity/Intelligence based. A silent assassin, a murderous artist, a flicker in the dark. The Shadow is a professional whose delight in killing sometimes goes beyond simply finishing the job.
The Witch
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/Lfj3NmU.png)
Intelligence based. Persecuted, her family and village slaughtered, she got revenge using her strange abilities they so feared. Like the others, Wraeclast's secrets provide a place to learn and grow, though her interests border on disturbing.
The Templar
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/UfuvU2i.png)
Strength/Intelligence based. A true believer, the Templar is man of bravery and faith in a world where such ideals hardly exist. Driven by purpose, the Templar will stop at nothing to defeat the corruption that plagues the world.
The Scion
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/1rAffDR.png)
Master of all three attributes. A true prodigy, yet born to a noble family that saw her as nothing more than a tool. Exiled after killing her husband on their wedding night, Wraeclast will unlock her limitless potential. Must be discovered.
These characters are connected by the Passive Skill Tree, a massive thing that can be daunting at first.
+ Show Spoiler [Yep, that's the skill tree] +
![[image loading]](https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/pathofexile.gamepedia.com/3/3b/2.1passivetree.jpg?version=23c30258975cea009dad00b29eaa233c)
Leveling or doing quests gives you skill points to allocate on this passive tree. Each class has a different starting area on the passive tree, but with enough points any class can take any passive skill, allowing a huge diversity of builds.
Each class also has Ascendency Classes, which futher augment a character's abilities in thematic ways. For example, the Shadow can become the Assassin, increasing his critical damage output, a Saboteur, focusing on traps and mines, or the Trickster, a balanced character with bonuses to Energy Shield and Evasion. You can read more about Ascendancy here.

Currency
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/pbl5eJa.png)
Like any ARPG, the game revolves around killing monsters for loot, then using that loot to build up your character, allowing you to take on bigger and better challenges. Unlike most other ARPGs, PoE doesn't have any singular currency type like gold or that is a general use for trades / wealth.
Instead, the game features various currency types that can be used to trade with other players, or consumed to craft stronger items. This allows PoE's great item design to shine; the game features a wide array of items and item affixs that can be modified to suit your needs.
+ Show Spoiler [A Famous Blade] +![[image loading]](http://i58.tinypic.com/2m4dod2.jpg)
Might not be obvious, but this item took an obscene amount of currency to craft, creating one of the most powerful and mirrored daggers ever.
Aside from rare items, PoE has over 600 Unique Items, some of which were designed by players. These can drastically change how a character plays and are often build defining. However, uniques are not universally best in slot; well crafted rare items can match or even be better than their unique counterparts, making itemiziation more interesting.

Build Your Own Skills
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ZKz3VSf.png)
In PoE, instead of learning active skills from a skill tree, skills are items called skill gems that you can socket into your gear. You can then socket and link support gems to them, which augment them in various ways. This ranges from something simple like Melee Physical Damage Support boosting a melee skill's damage, to effects like Chain Support which fundamentally affects a skill's base mechanics.

The sum of all these mechanics allows one to make a huge variety of builds. The thrill of carefully studying game mechanics, planning everything out, then seeing a build you designed work out is amazing. The game rewards players who have greater skill and deeper game knowledge in a way that few other games can. The sheer variety of ways one can make a character gives PoE great replayability.

Frequent Content Updates, Leagues, & Developers Who Care
+ Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ehD4WtJ.png)
All of these game mechanics wouldn't matter if the game was lacking good content. Luckily Path of Exile has more than enough engaging gameplay, with a main storyline that progresses through 4 Acts and 3 Difficulties with tons of bosses, quests, and difficult encounters, culminating in an endgame with a crap ton of varied and challenging content.
Mapping, the main endgame activity (seen as some as the true beginning of the game), has you using maps to enter new zones that contain more difficult monsters, bosses, and more rewarding loot and exp. You can customize these maps using currency, to increase both the difficulty and the rewards.

Support and Leagues
![[image loading]](https://p7p4m6s5.ssl.hwcdn.net/public/news/16-11-2016/242PatchNotesHeader.jpg)
Perhaps most importantly, GGG releases new content in the form of Leagues every 3 months. These new leagues not only have a new ladder where everyone can have a fresh starting point, but always include some sort of significant content update. Additionally, they constantly add to the game between league cycles, ranging from smaller mid-league updates of new skills and items, to performance fixes and upgrades.
One example of a huge update recently was the Atlas of World expansion, which completely revamped the endgame mapping system and added 19 new bosses (with amazing loot to go along with it of course). GGG constantly adds expansion sized content to PoE, for free (more on that later)

GGG, the best in the business
![[image loading]](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/09/Grinding_Gear_Games_logo_2012.png)
GGG made PoE to make a game that they would want to play, and their love for the game shows. Their amazing support (very helpful and quick customer service), their constant community interaction (appear on podcasts, post on reddit often, all hail Chris Wilson, etc.), and their fair business practices make them a great company to get behind.

It's free?? Best F2P Model Around
+ Show Spoiler +
To cap it off, PoE is completely F2P. There is absolutely no P2W elements, only cosmetic microtransactions like weapon visual effects, pets (just for compansionship), capes, things like that. There are some QOL microtransactions like more stash tabs, more character slots, which give some in game benefit, but are definitely not needed to enjoy all the game has to offer.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/p1kEkRW.png)
Stash tabs; helpful but not needed
Aside from all the things mentioned already, PoE also has PvP, up to 6 man multiplayer play, a deep economy, competitive racing, and more, all for FREE. There are all sorts of ways to enjoy the game, and GGG are constantly expanding it.

Path of Exile is a ARPG that heavily resembles Diablo 1&2. The game is free to play and is not "pay2win" the only the item mall only sells things such as dance animations, weapon effects, special "helmets", and pets none of which help you in combat and are only for looks.
6 Classes are available in PoE.
![[image loading]](http://webcdn.pathofexile.com/image/classes/class_select.jpg?v=4)
![[image loading]](http://s3.amazonaws.com/pathofexile/image/skills/fireball_gem.jpg)
The skill gem system is this is confusing for most players at first so I will give you a quick run-down of how it works. You will be awarded skill gems through the means of quests, drops, and trading. These gems are the colors of the 3 attributes, and will be inserted into your equipment. You insert them into slots of the same color example: Fireball is a intelligence gem so you must have x amount of intelligence to equip it and a blue socket on your gear. You can remove and change them as you please they do not get destroyed upon removal which you do by simply right clicking the gem. As you kill mobs and gain experience so will your gems, and they will all get equal XP no matter how many you have equipped. You can use your skills by the hotkeys right mouse, middle mouse, and keys Q-T. Then you have support gems which you equip to linked slots + Show Spoiler +
![[image loading]](http://s3.amazonaws.com/pathofexile/image/skills/linkedsockets.jpg)
The passive tree which is what you spend your skill points from leveling up and completing quests on is quite intimidating at first. It is huge to be blunt about it. There are so many options that you can choose for your character in here. Where you start on this tree is based on your class as in the Witch starts where the intelligence and spell damage nodes are and Marauder around health and armor nodes. I’m not going to say much about the skill tree as there is way too much to cover. However follow this link for a look at the skill tree and what it contains! Even make a test build in it.
Monsters in this game are handled in four ways, normal, blues, rares, and bosses you will see the mods they have under their names. The normal ones are your basic monster that have no special powers until the later difficulties which you get by completing all the acts they will get resistances to things such as Fire, cold, and physical* and maybe immunities in the higher difficulties(I’m not sure haven’t reached them). Then you have your blues also called magic these are pretty much the same as normal except they have a mod on them which vary from Increased damage, regenerates life, gains frenzy charge on hit, and even the rare drops extra loot known as the ‘wealth’ mod. Blues usually come in small groups of 2-4. Rares are the ones you need to look out for not only do they have mods just like blues but they can have an aura which affects all monsters around it in a positive way or affects you in a negative way, some of these are allies cannot die, resists all, and the feared reflect physical damage or elemental damage killing these net you the best loot. Note however only 20% of what you hit with will be reflected back at you.
![[image loading]](http://s3.amazonaws.com/pathofexile/image/monsterauras/damage_reflection.jpg)
A monster sporting the reflect physical damage aura.
![[image loading]](http://www.pathofexile.com/image/monsters/brute.jpg)
This guys a bad-ass
Bosses are usually alone and difficult to bring down, They have unique abilities and mods you are unable to see and are also able to cast spells that can be devastating. After you kill a boss you will be awarded some loot and often times you will also find a loot chest in the room after the boss.
Buying and selling is done in orbs, and items. It is difficult to get used to and I still haven’t got the hang of it. The orbs most used in trading are Chaos, Regal, Alchemy, Blessed, Gemcutter’s, and jewelers. This however isn’t even half of the orbs. List of Orbs
Items come in four forms which are, normal, magic, rare, and unique. These items are based off of a Prefix and Suffix mods system in which you can see by their names for example: Smoldering sword of Plunder is a sword that gives added fire damage and item rarity. Normals are the color white and are usually junk but with the right amount of sockets or quality% it can be worth it to pick it up whites are the only ones that do not have to be identified. Magic are blue you are unable to equip them until they are identified with a scroll of identify they contain 1-2 mods. Rares the yellow ones these are the ones you are looking for the most they have the best mods of all the items and are what your character will be mostly wearing at the end game. Uniques are the color brown* these are the rarest items to find and can be powerful especially at low levels. Currently there are 55 unique items in the game and more are being added these items have set attributes and are great for using with a specific build.
PvP is an important subject for a lot of people and in Path of Exile the PvP isn’t released yet however it does sound great. There will be a mode called Cutthroat in which anyone can join your instance and kill you at any time. There will be Cutthroat tournaments in the future in which everyone starts at level one and fights for survival and to kill the other players. On top of that there will be a team based arena with ranking system*, and they will be balancing PvP to make all characters fair and enjoyable.
With no currency such as gold in the game vendors will sell you things for items and you can sell some items in combination for higher level items an example of this would be a 20% weapon gets you a blacksmiths whetstone. Full list of vendors recipes found here:Link.
Building your character in Path of exile is so unique and fun. I am always going back and creating a new character because I had thought of an idea for another class. Seeing your builds come together is great as it takes a lot of planning to do. If you have a build you like make a video or guide and post it here and I will add it to the OP.
When the game is released it will be Free to play with micro-transactions these transactions are said to be things from only aesthetic such as dragon headed fire balls to new class skins, and the ability to create your own servers rules which you and your friends can play on.
