Already wrote in the LR thread, that this sucks...
"more points at next major"
?
What about
"More points to the teams that did well in season one and here is at least part of the price money we wanted to give out at the major. Especially for Div2 teams, that will be helping!"

Anyone knows who would have hosted the Major?
And I will keep my eyes on IEM Katowice 2022 for CS:GO. Let's see if they also drop the the tournament...

I feel terrible for the upcoming or non-organized teams like Tickles, PuckChamp, and QC, who are on the verge of making their first Major or the chance to earn a great deal of their income for the year until TI, and have this snatched away from them without any warning. For consistency's sake, Valve better cancel all the crowd events for their CS tournaments. If not, I'd honestly start to wonder if Valve gave up on Dota or consider it second fiddle to CS.

Some pros are vocally saying there needs to be some kind of reform, because at its current state, it's unsustainable and threatens their livelihoods. EG's manager wrote that after TI10, Valve told the teams

Valve sees TI as a passion project. They don’t gain much revenue from TI compared to the time out in, and when teams go straight to public platforms to complain about issues, it makes Valve less motivated to keep running TI.

which sounds very sad to me. There's little to no channels of communication about these earthshattering decisions and Valve are almost using the language of abusers to tell players to stop airing out their worries and complaints, or else they'll turn away. I don't blame Sumail for having this thought in his mind right now.

If all the teams decide to just not compete in season 2 at least we will have some sort of stable system, either better communication or maybe dota just dies completely. Either way better than the current state of things.

Passion project heh.

Valve does care about steam and honestly with enough bad rep and/or bad things happening to a leading product/franchise they can be eclipsed by a competitor and become irrelevant. Happened before in every industry and can happen again

Good examples are WoW, Yahoo, Overwatch and many many more. Even facebook got eclipsed eventually.

Quinn made a stream on twitch, talking about his thoughts and feeling about major cancellation and the Dota scene overall.
Lots of respect for him for being that honest and to the point. I think its very interesting so i thought i post it here for the "non-reddit audience". Hope thats ok?

it is rather hilarious valve said the teams shouldnt go to public forums to complain, and then when teams do reach out direct to valve, they dont answer for weeks/months

The whole "you shouldn't complain publicly because it makes us want to cancel TI" is such a shitty thing to hear from Valve

I would of rather have them split up the points between the teams that would of been invited based on how they finished in their regions than just put it to future majors; seems like a real shitty way to do it - not only do we not have a major but we don't get any sort of tournament. Could of even done a playoff for each region for the teams that would of been invited in order to split up prize money or points or even included more teams in a playoff thing. Idk, so many things they could of done this seems like one of the worst ways to handle a bad situation. Very disappointing.

Valve issued an apology:

What do you guys n girls think?! Is this enough?
For me ... while it is at least something ... i am still not convinced. It honestly still looks a little bit half-assed.
But i will give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they can make something happen that eases the situation of the teams.

I agree it's something, which is good, I hope it turns into something more.

Speculation on my part, and based on what I understand: likely one of the reasons the event was cancelled was because it's so hard for Chinese teams with the mandatory 2-3 week hotel quarantine (regardless of negative test or vaccine status). It is a tricky situation since excluding one region is unfair, on the other hand, it sucks a lot for the other 80% of the DPC. You can't have the tournament in China either because then all the other teams have to quarantine upon arrival. They probably didn't want to go through the same thing that happened after TI10, hell some of the team probably just got back around a month ago. Not sure what the internet connection is like to China, but maybe it's possible to hold the tournament somewhere in SEA and have the Chinese teams play online? Another option could be to play for the money and do what valve is planning with DPC points for the next tournament.

Its astounding how after 11 years of competitive dota2 and 7 years of DPC/majors we are still having the same effin issues. How can anyone take this seriously is beyond me. I dont give a shit about their apology, they shouldn't be apologizing to the general playerbase/viewers, they should be apologizing to the players and teams that dedicate the time and money to be in competitive Dota on a more personal level than this corporate bullshit of a non answer. It's ridiculous at this point. Teams and players need to grow some balls and push back against this crap from Valve.

I don't know what has Valve done to make either csgo or dota 2 eSports scene better. Literally none.

Pretty good spectator modes compared to its competitors at the time.

Why don't Valve held the major in China instead?
Like last year TI, if valve held the TI10 in china than those problem with "no spectator allowed" will not happen, yes I know you need to go through 2-3 week hotel quarantine (regardless of negative test or vaccine status) to enter China, but after that annoying process done, you can do what you want there with no restriction. IMO, China is the safest country from covid this days, and the most reasonable place to held such event

Australia can be another alternative coz it's relatively easy to enter the country if you been fully vaccinated, though for safety from covid , for today alone +134,508 new covid case is the number, so it wouldn;t be a surprise if a player or staff gets infected once they there (like what have at TI10 in Romania)

I, my self travel around coz my job requires me, for me those 2 country would be the most possible choice, China is a pain in the ass coz of their 0 covid policy, but they are the safest place and the only place that I visit which able to live very close to a normal life before covid struck, way to get out from china to return to their own country for the team probably via singapore to cut the quarantine process, coz of politics, many western country make it difficult to enter or go back to any western country if you come directly after you visit china, the way around it for me is via Singapore or some of my friend use Dubai as alternative (2 weeks quarantine transit at singapore or dubai),

I agree china is probably the safest place covid wise, but I think the quarantine kills the plan. 1) who’s is going to pay for it? The players cannot, the organizer cannot, valve could. However, quarantine for 20 teams is probably more than the rest of the tournament combined including the prize pool. It’s not worth it IMO. 2) two weeks is a long time relative to the tournament. The wild card teams will play for two days then go home, only a few days for the group stage teams. I don’t think many players would want to quarantine for nothing.

I know lag and such, plus the time zone problem getting international matches together, but is there a good reason the solution isn't, "Due to continuing COVID-19 pandemic conditions, the first major for this DPC season will be held in an online format"?

I understand they want to have an international competition with everyone, so do I, but they don't need to do that. They can still have regional playoffs for prize money and dpc points so this season is worth something. I really don't understand how they can consider just moving the prize and points when these teams have been training and playing for months to earn these points.
