Singapore Major COVID list
This weekend, we'll see the first Major international LAN for Dota 2 since the COVID lockdown started over a year ago. It's meant to be a celebration and the start of a careful return to normalcy. However, with most of the teams now having arrived in Singapore, we'll be missing some big names.
Singapore Major COVID-list

Team Aster | Boboka | Mad |
NaViUpdated 25/3: NaVi has withdrawn from the tournament after Mag also tested positive for COVID.
NaVi is back. Or they were, at least. The old FTM roster has continuously grown under the NaVi brand and this DPC season they managed to snag a 2nd place finish in the CIS DPC league. They were only outdone by the resurgence of Virtus Pro and its new roster.
Needless to say, hopes were high for NaVi coming into Singapore. However, it has since been announced that both Iceberg and ALWAYSWANNAFLY will be unable to attend the Major, throwing a major spanner in the works for the Ukrainian org.

Quincy CrewFor a good portion of the NA DPC it looked like QC would be able to de-throne EG. They were sitting on a perfect record until they surprisingly lost to Undying in the very last week or the season, and then falling to EG in the tiebreakers.
Similar to NaVi, this has caused some hype around the team and while QC won't be missing two players in the Major, MSS has been diagnosed with COVID and will not make it to Singapore.
Update 25/3: MiLAN will not stand in for QC after having been in contact with COVID. New standin TBD.

Team NigmaBeing one of the European teams at the Major automatically puts you in the spotlight and with a roster like Nigma's, no one can blame fans for having high hopes. However, the bar for what counts as a success has to be lowered as it has been announced that Mind_Control has contracted the virus and will not be joining his team for the Major.

Neon EsportsWhile it's not clear that this is COVID related, Neon has announced that Natsumi-, their position 1 player, is "unfit to travel". The team wished him a speedy recovery, implying that the absence is COVID related but that has not been confirmed at this point in time.

beastcoastWith just a few days to go until the start of the Singapore Major, beastcoast has withdrawn from the Major due to COVID. Stinger, the teams position 5 player, was exposed to the virus earlier this week but due to the incubation period the team cannot guarantee that all their players are healthy before flying to Singapore.

Team AsterBoboka cannot attend the Major due to "personal reasons". There are speculation floating around as to why that is but nothing is confirmed at this point in time. Aster's coach, Mad, will take his spot in the lineup.

Surprisingly few replacements and such tbh
|
There's really never any luck for Nigma at Majors these days. They either don't qualify or disaster strikes.
|
This sucks big time for NAVI.
|
4/90 is a surprisingly high ratio for people that can work from home. Though a few could have been previously infected and still show as positive I guess.
The bigger surprise for me was that one of the days start at 3 in the morning instead of 4. Though I think it is a liquipedia error (I hope).

Didn't you call MC a disaster and a Blackwhole in the lineup. So surprised you are not happy.

Yup, I realised when I started thinking about it. :D I am happy to only miss the first games on the first day. 3 is too early for me. 4 is still decentish.

Bumping: beastcoast has withdrawn from the Major. No clue how they're not already in SG but they're not playing.

Is it too late to vote for Coronavirus in the prediction contest?

I don't think teams are there yet except for the wild card participants. All the EU players are still playing EU pubs
|
I assume the wild card is there so that in the end there might be 16 teams total
which is pretty smart tbh
|
Well more news: NaVi withdraws, MiLAN can't make it so QC is down a stand-in. Jeeeeez
|
Man that sucks... The schedule is just too close together! Get all the players there two weeks before anything starts, send them into quarantine there (hell, they even can train from their hotel rooms...) and things should be fine! But basically 3 days... meh...
|
I was on that train as well for a bit but I know that the TL players, for example, have been quarantining for quite a while before leaving. To be 100% sure they wouldn't get COVID.
Also I've been told that, once they arrive, the teams are their own bubble. They're not allowed to interact with other teams/talent. So that's a good precaution. None of these infections have actually happened IN Singapore.

That's smart and very responsible of TL. Would have been nice if other teams followed suite. I suppose not everyone has the ability to --- in terms of other responsibilities and lack of financial resources though.
|
This tournament will still be fantastic if EG + top EU teams + China + VP are all full rosters, so I'm hopeful.
|
|
Yeah not quite sure how to handle that one. Not exactly covid related if the rumours are true
