Singapore Major Talent List
With a little less than 4 weeks to go until the first Major of 2021, and the first international LAN event in over a year, PGL has announced the on-air talent for the Major.
Plenty of known names have made it onto the roster. The majority of the talent will come from the PGL ran English production for the SEA and CN DPC leagues, as it to be expected, but we'll also see Sheever, ODPixel, Fogged, and a few others join them.
The biggest surprise to the lineup is Sumichu, a host that has mostly worked within the fighting games and speedrun communities. This will be her first Dota 2 event and it seems likely that she will work in tandem with Sheever on the desk.
With all the big names attending the event, there are a few missing. Mosts notably the American quartet of Cap, Kyle, Purge, and BSJ. All of whom were staples on the EU/CIS DPC streams this year and did a stellar job. However, someone has to be the odd man out and it is understandable that PGL chooses to mainly work with talent they've worked with for the season.
With this announcement, the first Major since COVID shut down the world is now feeling more and more real. This is going to be exciting, to say the least.

Cap planning on hosting his own Major "production":
|
An actual LAN event woohoo. Pity about the lack of a crowd due to requirements.
|
Yeah but at least we'll get international competition again!
|
Am I the only one who has no idea who sumichu is?
Could be a bit heavier on the analyst side of things. Fogged, black^ and Lacoste are pretty good, but I feel that the DL season had a noticeably higher analytical level with Kyle, BSJ and Purge (and Fogged), especially ratio wise. There are a bunch of people in this roster who know enough to give stimulus or ideas to the people with very deep analytical skills, but the number of people who actually are semi-/ex pro players or at least top ladder people is lacking and I hope we won't get a Kbop Sheever Tsunami panel that has to analyze a draft.

@Archeon
Fair points, but no way a panel like your example is happening. Sheever is a host, so she'll be there, but Bkop is usually casting as the hype guy (so not the analyst), so I doubt we'll see him analyzing drafts. Tsunami is a content creator, so I don't see him as that bad at draft analysis. I am also fairly sure they will mix the talent properly, and also do consider the other host is not even coming from Dota, so you know, I am sure they are ready for that too.
And even if you are right, and the panel will be a bit below par, let's just be thankful we finally get a LAN.

Are u saying that Kyle give a high level analytics. Really the most annoying and nocent talking person in dota scene. Really dont think BSJ is better then Lizzard or Black. Yeah gonna miss Purge. But if they wanted higher analytics they could just hire Synderen.
Just glad OD is casting and Kyle is not. Nice with a new host i have never heard of in Sumichu.

I happen to really like both Kyle's style and analysis. To each their own.
Most disappointed about Moxxi though. Should be good, but I'll probably be watching Cap's thing too.

I know Sumichu as the person, that is the first on camera when a xGDQ event finishes. But aside some set phrases ("we made xx amount of money!!!") it is more a sequencing of other people talking. I don't know her for this hosting in fighting games. But above "work" is not very impressive... I'm open to be surprised!
Synderen is definitely missed

Yes Kyle is riding on some points too much. But his draft analysis and gameplan analysis is mostly on point and it's noticeable that he led a fairly high level team back in the days when he talks about what type of hero a team needs or what strategy they are trying to execute f.e.. I get why people find him annoying, but he's still an excellent draft analyst.
I'd rate Black probably the highest in the caster pool, but Lizzard is quite often lacking in vision of what a team intends to do. He's become much better since his introduction, but yes I'd 100% rate Kyle and BSJ over Lizzard in terms of strategic analysis and drafting and I don't have a strong personal opinion of any of them. Lizzard is a decent in-game analyst though and has a good eye for micro plays.
Definitely would like to have Synderen back, but it feels like forever since I've seen him cast anything, not sure he's interested and if he is he's currently sadly flying under the radar. PPD is another one I'd love to see, but same story. I wouldn't mind Kips, she is usually sharp in the analysis department too although not the best speaker.
Also Kyle and OD are imo good at entirely different things and as such not comparable at all, OD is an excellent shoutcaster with a slight game knowledge and Kyle is an excellent draft analyst with decent verbal abilities. They don't compete for the same slot. Overall the analysts imo are a bit shallow and there are too many I'd see more in the shoutcaster department, if they want to shuffle panelists I'm expecting a lot of mediocre analysis.

I will admit that I havent watched much BSJ analyst work. but in the games i watched with EU maches from OG and Secret he could not understand the draft and says so, and in normal games he makes big analysis that turns out to be totally wrong more often the right. Maybe i have been unlucky but really have hard time seeing him as more the mediocre.
regarding that i like OD and not Kyle. It was more from cast in general as I regard OD is the best play by play caster, and Kyle as the worst of worst analysist that have ever been. To make a point of why so totally dislike Kyle analyst is to use a Synderen term. If u have a Kyle pick analyst u got a Kyle anyalyst panel, draft and what ever he does. there is nowhere to escape that Kyle stupidity or brilliance what ever is your point of view, Either your got 15-20 of pleasure or pain or just mute with some good music in the background.

Yeah Kyle is very vocal, I get that, he's the opposite to Lacoste who could be a bit more present f.e. If you don't like him I get that you don't want Kyle on the panel.
I honestly don't have a problem if someone says that they don't understand the draft. OG's drafts are often weird and I doubt the average panel has any idea what they are doing when they draft their pocket strats or timing pushes. I liked BSJ's after-game-analyses and he's very insightful in carry lane matchups, rotation timings and map control.
I definitely agree with OD being the currently best play by play-/shoutcaster. My problem is that I'd rate GodZ, Lacoste, and Lizzard all as decent and likeable (Tsunami mainly fits the latter category), but they are all majorly panelists where there are a bunch of people I'd rather have. PPD and Synd f.e. know more about drafting than any of them, Purge is a better analyst, Waga and Cap are more fun on the panel and still have good analytical skills, Nahaz brings the statistical background.
Overall I'd rather have a bunch of guys who are excellent in different areas than a bunch of people who are decent all around, but don't bring anything to the table someone else couldn't. I feel that a large part of the major's talent pool fits the latter more than the former. And that ignores that sumichu seems to be a random twitch streamer who occasionally plays dota and doubt I've seen Bkop more than 2-3 times and can't find him on youtube. That they'd rather invite these two than Cap is mind boggling to me.
|
BKop is a caster from NA that has made a name for himself casting China games in English that nobody else would do. He is rather lowkey but has started to get a larger following. I think the logic about the casters is you have Fogged and GodZ for NA and SA, then Lacoste and Lizzard for EU and CiS, Black for SEA and China. And BKop a bit for China because he has large knowledge of the teams and region. The host is kind of a different thing, i don't mind them bringing in a good host of other games. Really hard to say if she is good or not.
|
Love the Lizzard&Lacoste duo. Most fun I have listening to dota streams. Nice to have Godz aboard.
I'd prefer to not have the same 'best of' talents in every single LAN (I know we haven't had one in a while, but pretend it's 2019 of something). I'd rather have a bigger pool of talents alternating. I think OD is good, but I don't want him to cast every single qualifier/lan I watch etc.
I'll still miss Kyle, Cap, Synd though.

Nice, I already took the 31:st and 1:st off in order to not get vacation days moved over to pay as unused. Had been saving them for a future TI date from the summer, so guess this will have to do.
|
Fan favourite Black^ in the panel (✖╭╮✖)
|
Wonder if Cap can get merlini for his chill broadcast, i'll probably have both open and mute/unmute depending on who's currently on
|
I kind of forgot about Dota 2 once they cancelled TI last year. I'm glad it's back though. I am getting pretty sick of everyone being afraid of their own shadows.
People need to just start telling the government: "no, you cannot keep me locked in my cage like a rat," and everyone needs to move on with their lives already.

Very good lineup except for Lizzard, can't stand the guy.
