Early this morning, European time, Valve released gameplay patch 7.28c. The patch focused on nerfing heroes we've seen a lot both in pubs but also pro play, such as Puck, Earthshaker, Shadow Shaman, Nyx, OD... you get the gist.
However, that's not what needs discussing here. We'll write this in the off chance that Valve read this. Slim chance but we're taking it: Valve, what the FUCK are you thinking? The patch is fine. Great, even. Some of these heroes needed nerfs but you released this patch at 3:20am CET, the morning before some incredibly important DPC matches. We'll focus on EU, as we have throughout this DPC cycle:
Match 1: OG vs. Liquid. A match where OG could secure themselves a tiebreaker for a spot in the Major OR Liquid could make it so that three(!) teams are tied for two spots in the Major. Match 2: Tundra vs. VikinGG Depending on the result of the first match, this could be a straight up elimination match. If Liquid wins vs. OG, the loser of this match will be out of the upper division.
You have these two matches and you drop a patch nerfing the most used heroes in the DPC less than 12 hours before the horn blows? You are toying with peoples livelihoods here! The stakes are incredibly high and you decide to drop this shit on the heads of the players? All these teams have been scrimming, preparing for these matches, and now a lot of that prep has to go out the window. You've turned one of the best regions in the DPC into a lottery. Todays matches might very well come down to which team woke up earlier and managed to find that one hero you missed nerfing, who's suddenly super viable.
Yes, these nerfs were needed but couldn't you have kept them in your vault for another 2 weeks while the DPC finishes up? This is a monumental fuck-up and I hope, but doubt, that you'll pay for it somehow.

And Julmust took that personally

Just as I wanted to start playing Bat, Riki and OD lul. Are they now in the dumpster or are still viable, but not broken?
|
why the fuck would you nerf morph but not alch.
|
Nyx's Vendetta no longer applying Break peeves me more than the rest. That used to be an early pick to discourage enemy Spectre or Bristleback picks that my team couldn't otherwise deal with.

The success of match making is one part behind the problem. Moving everybody away from lobby playing as the default practice, leading to the end of stable versions for competitive play. Since playing 2 versions at once wasn't much liked as far as I can recall.
So now you have the problem of competitive and pub dota being the same version. With Valve being on the pub side for a long time now.

That being said this is more than anything addressed at pro matches, so I'm with Julmust here, the timing seems incredibly unfortunate. Especially if you care about the EU scene where nothing is decided yet and almost all of these are top picks.
Did I miss why Riki needed a nerf?
Also a lot of these already saw nerfs and imo were fine. Bat, Nyx, even Puck weren't first picks on average anymore and OD was just starting to get into the meta and wasn't high pick prio in the matches I saw. While outside of the break all nerfs to them were minor, they add up.
While Shaker shard needed a nerf, I don't really see it get picked up now anymore. Since shaker wasn't a pick before shard and only got nerfs since I doubt he is going to stay relevant, the hero definitely needed something in return.

It's just that if you get to level 25 with aghs and octarine, you had a 3 seconds duration trick of the trade on a 4,5 seconds cooldown. He was basically invunerable. Imagine with an arcane rune^^.
