Roman "RAMZES666" Kushnarev, returning to his carry role in the newly formed Just Error stack, talks about forming this team, when the idea of it born, and now COVID affected these plans. On top of the team related things, being a short lived position 3 player in Evil Geniuses, RAMZES explained why he switched back to being a carry.
Q: How did Just Error come to be? V1lat wrote that the idea of this team was formed back in 2019.
A: The International 2019 just ended and there were the inevitable reshuffles. At the event we were talking to Syed Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan and I myself was pondering what I want to do next.
Q: Why did it take a whole year for it to happen only now?
A: It didn’t work out back then. Someone wanted to go play somewhere else, someone already left, so it didn’t work. But after the pandemic started I couldn’t play myself, so I decided that it’s worth a try now.
Q: Was being physically unable to play with EG because of the closed borders the only reason you switch to being “inactive” in that team?
A: I don’t think that position 3 is my kind of role. Before the last TI I had maximum motivation to play the offlane, but since COVID ruined everything the motivation dramatically dwindled and I saw no more prospect in playing that role. Ultimately, I am a carry player, but I wanted to switch regions and my position to see how quickly I could make it work. I couldn’t make it work at all.
Q: Where did Vladimir "No[o]ne" Minenko find motivation to play the position 3 himself? How did you end up distributing your roles this way?
A: There were three of us, the first players in the team. Obviously, since I lost the motivation to play 3 in EG, I wanted to play carry. SumaiL also wanted to play carry or mid, so this is how that worked out.
Q: No[o]ne didn’t care what position to play, as long as it was a core?
A: No, No[o]ne actually likes playing offlane. He wanted to switch things up as well. As I understand it, he is perfectly pleased with everything right now. I think this question should be asked to him.
Q: There is a rumor that you could’ve had a different position 5. Allegedly, you wanted to invite Dmitriy "Fishman" Polishchu [currently B8 player]. Was that true and were you considering any other players at all?
A: I did message Fishman, but he said he had a contract with B8 Esports so he can’t join this year, though maybe he will join in the next season. That’s why we picked Alexey "Solo" Berezin, because Fishman declined and Solo is the second best after Fishman.
Q: You had no doubts about Bakyt "Zayac" Emilzhanov?
A: We’re not a team, we’re a mix, a stack. Were testing and trying things out. We had little practice and almost every team knows how to play Dota right now, since the patch didn’t change. These are all online tournaments: with Team Secret losing to Mudgolems and kinda how we lost yesterday [to Mudgolems on 13th of November].
Q: Kuro "KuroKy" Salehi Takhasomi formed Nigma with his teammates, OG also formed their own organization. Did have the same kind of idea or were you just trying things out for a tournament. What is Just Error’s future?
A: For now, none. We gathered to play for two tournaments. New Dota season starts next year and we will probably play in the new leagues to earn DPC points. But we still have to survive until that point.
Q: Language barrier topic is brought up often: SumaiL joined a team with four Russian speaking players. How does your communication work and are there any problems?
A: At the start of the game, before the laning stage, we speak Russian: me, Solo, No[o]ne and Zayac. After that we speak English so that everyone can understand the information. There are some small problems, of course, but better let them happen now, as opposed to later.
Q: During the summer, there was a story regarding Bai "rOtK" Fan being considered as your coach. Why don’t you have one yet and who did you consider? Do you even need one?
A: For now we are our own coach. We’re not considering anyone. Time will tell if we will need one.
Q: We mentioned that almost every team knows how to play Dota now, but just a month before you had an opposite opinion: “To beat Secret, you have to play Dota”. What exactly do you mean by that?
A: I mean that right now the general level of play is about even across all teams. There isn’t any super team. Before this event Team Secret was one, beating everyone without a scratch, but teams constantly learn. I think that Team Secret burned out, got tired playing all these online tournaments. The patch didn’t change at all, I think Dota needs to be refreshed somehow. Saying that “every team knows how to play”, I mean that the patch has been around for a long time and everyone learns. The most basic things are obvious to everyone.
