"As a Pos. 5, making wards cheaper is definitely a good thing"

Thanks for taking the time to do this interview. PSG.LGD’s had a pretty good tournament so far, including going 2-0 vs VG last night but what do you think happened in the series vs Alliance?
Since the patch just came out, everything is still new to us. We were mainly trying out new things in the group stage and experimenting with certain heroes. We tried to find out what the meta is about and how to adapt to it. Our results during the group stage wasn’t very consistent and our loss vs Alliance actually taught us a lot, in terms of both drafting and gameplay. I would say that we actually learned a lot and have adapted to the meta by the time the playoffs started.
You’ve mentioned the new patch. As a Position 5 player, what is your opinion on the changes like the reduced cost of wards and the stock limit on sentries?
As a Pos. 5, making wards cheaper is definitely a good thing since we don’t usually get a lot of resources. Sometimes, if the game is going badly, it’s very disadvantageous to have problems with your resources and buying wards, so it’s a really good change for us. As for the limitations to sentries, I don’t know about other support players, but I think it’s a nerf to me because I used to spam purchase a lot of Sentries. However, it does encourage a team to get a gem earlier so that they can actually utilise it instead of playing it safe with Sentries like we previously used to do.
Abaddon was changed a bit this patch, is he still first-pick material with other heroes like Chen and Io coming in?
I don’t think there were too many changes besides the Scepter buffs. It’s actually quite strong from what I’ve seen but normally it’s played as a Pos. 5 so you never really have the resources for Aghs anyway. It really depends on how the team wants to use the hero and how it fits into their draft, so I don’t really think there’s much change to it.
Yesterday, you picked Position 5 Bat and Pos. 3 Pudge. Was it just trying stuff out? What do you personally think of Pos. 5 Bat?
I mean, we picked the Batrider earlier to counter the enemy picks and it’s a very flexible pick for us. We play it in any position except Pos. 1 so I wouldn’t say it’s not very useful in a game. It’s because it got countered that I was forced to play it Pos. 5 in that game. As for the Pudge, we actually went through it during the draft and we noticed they had a rather greedy lineup with Spectre and they had no catch or damage. Pudge was kind of popular last patch since Secret started it and we saw that Pudge was really strong in the game since they had no damage to deal with him. By building up team items and getting tankier, we can actually see the impact that Pudge had since their damage had some limitations.
Lately, more and more SEA players, especially Malaysian players, have been going over to play in China. You and ah fu were pretty much the first ones, so what do you think about it? Is it a good change for either or both of the Chinese and SEA scenes?
I think the reason that Malaysian players are going overseas to play for other teams is because they don’t see any opportunity in Malaysia since most of the actual pros and veterans are overseas and don’t like risking picking up new blood from home. They don’t actually have a platform and some really reliable organisations or coaches to lead and teach them. I would say it’s a bad thing for Malaysia, at least, since the talented players and some of those with potential are all going overseas. As for China, since ah fu joined, he actually made a lot of changes to China’s perspective of Malaysian players. They actually see a lot of potential in SEA players. It’s just that there’s no one to lead them or teach them so it’s like a new approach since they pick up new players and new blood, giving opportunities to us.
We seem to have run out of time, so thanks again for the interview.
