At ESL One Hamburg, Shiaopi and 2009 sat down with Vici Gaming's rookie, Dy, for an interview.
First of all, thank you for your time for this interview. You are the resident “new blood” of Vici Gaming and it is the first time for you on a premier team. So we were curious about how you got into Vici Gaming.
Previously I played for the youth team of Vici for a year. And the club then decided to try to promote me to the main team. So this tournament is also a evaluation for myself and you can all see my performance.
So what were your feelings when you got the notice from the management?
How to say it...All in all I was happy, but after a bit I realised that this is also a test. This is just a chance and it depends on me to grasp it. That’s the reason why I am also trying my best right now to seize this chance and show everyone my abilities to prove that I earned my spot.
This trip to Hamburg is your first LAN and also your first time abroad. How has the experience been for you?
The first thing that comes to mind is how exhausting long-distance flights are. Germany actually feels quite comfortable. There are many sights to see, the cityscape with the older buildings is eye catching and there are really a lot of pigeons on the sidewalk that are not afraid of humans at all. That is very rare in China. It is a very fresh experience and I am quite glad for it.
Do you miss things from China?
I really miss Hot Pot.
Indeed that would be great in this weather. As a position 5 support, what would be your advice to people trying to learn or master the role?
The most important thing I’d say is building synergy with your teammates. Besides that securing your safelaner his early game is the first responsibility of a support.
How is the communication within the team? Is there special attention given to you as the “newbie”?
At the beginning there was some. Like explaining the reasons behind some of the team’s movements. But after a while I got the hang of it and now I don’t need that anymore. We all know what to do at what point.
Your team’s coach is the legendary rotk. What do you think is the main contribution of his for Vici Gaming?
First of all his attitude is very strict and hard-working. He has a keen eye for detail and will point out all the little things you can do to improve. He has high expectations of us and expects us to perform at our best. And he is very strict on us to keep up. That is also a key reason why our results are very good right now.
Coming back to the current tournament. You had a very strong group stage and you also already won against Aster. Your next opponent will be Virtus.Pro, the defending champions and one of the best western teams. Have you prepared specifically for them? For example their Huskar or Broodmother?
Usually our coach handles strategic issues like those, so us team members don’t know too much. But I am confident that we don't have to be afraid of anything.
Since your coach is handling strategy, is rotk also drafting for you like mikasa did before at TI?
Of course. And he does it very well.
Thank you very much and good luck for your match.
No problem and thank you.
