A few minutes ago ESL officially announced the location for their next Dota 2 major. The event will take place in Birmingham, England, May 23rd - 27th. This will be the first major Dota 2 tournament taking place in the UK and will feature 12 teams competing for the $1,000,000 prize pool during the last weekend of May. The event will have a two day group stage, May 23rd to 24th, and three days, May 25th to 27th, in Arena Birmingham.
“This is a dream come true for the ESL UK team and a fantastic win for the UK scene,” commented James Dean, managing director at ESL UK. “Dota 2 was the very first tournament we ran just after starting up in 2012. We are honoured to have this opportunity and hope to make the UK Dota 2 community extremely proud.”
A total of 6 teams will be invited, which ones was not announced, and 6 teams will qualify through regional qualifiers. This means that each region will have one qualifier spot for the event. The open qualifiers for Birmingham will take place between the 14th and 15th of April while the final, closed qualifier, will be held between the 19th and 22nd of April.
This event will be ESL's third, and final, major on the DPC this season and will surely feature some of the best teams in the world as there is only one team who have secured their spot at TI8. For those interested in attending the event live ticket sales will start on the 15th of March at 12:00 CET and there are four categories of tickets: day, weekend, weekend plus, and premium. No information yet of what the different tiers will provide.
