Day 2 Recap
Only five teams now remain in the contention for the numero uno spot at the DAC 2017, as day 2 in the main brackets comes to an end. While an all-Chinese affair between IG.V and VG.J see the former snatch victory in a great rebound, EG keep the blue dream alive with an incredible display of skill coming out from Sumail and Arteezy, destroying Team Faceless’ and SEA’s dreams. The day ends with Chinese fans overwhelming the stadium as iG.V took down the resurgent Team Empire in a thrilling BO3.
The first game of the day started off with an invasion for the enemy rune led by iG.V. Their trip fell short, however, as Agressif’s Earthshocks gave VG.J an early 2-0 lead. The first game quickly snowballing into a complete stomp, Agressif again led VG.J in the next game on Terrorblade. Hopes were plummeting in iG.V. However, after a few quick pick-offs followed by an excellent Rosh fight on the back of Paparazzi’s Invoker, a determined iG.V caught VG.J off guard to get their opponents call an early gg. Game 3 brought in fy’s signature Rubick, pulling off some incredible solo plays. They, however, would fall short to great turnaround plays and high ground pushes by iG.V, who went on to secure their spot in the next round.
Evil Geniuses, in their natural habitat that is the lower bracket, continued their run. After taking on Wings Gaming in convincing fashion on Day 1, EG managed to take down the last hope of SEA, Team Faceless, rather brutally. Game 1 saw iceiceice picking and delivering on the Magnus. It however fell short to the onslaught and counter-initiation staged countless number of times by Universe’s Axe and Cr1t’s Warlock. Coupled with SumaiL’s on-point Invoker and an insane display of mechanical skills from Arteezy, Jabz and co. fell short. While game 1 indeed was a struggle till the 56th minute, game 2 was convincingly EG’s to lose right from the beginning. Winning their lanes rather harshly, toying around with Black^’s Morphling and constant harassment in the mid lane resulted in the fall of objectives in quick succession. In the end, with the scoreline reading 31-8, EG cemented their place in the next round.
Last but not the least, iG.V took on Team Empire to close the day for the main brackets. On the back of a godly Invoker by fn, Team Empire took a hard fought game 1. Characterized by by an outplay led by Ghostik and KingR, leaving the game up for grabs for Chappie’s PA, iG.V succumbed, calling the game at the 41st minute mark. With CIS’s last hope on the verge of securing at least a top 4 finish, the momentum continued slowly but steadily in game 2. With an Alchemist in the picture now, Team Empire enjoyed a favored net worth and experience advantage. However, quick losses of heroes on their side after the 25th minute saw the advantage narrow. Not letting go of the inch gained, the pushing line-up of the Chinese roster, lead by Sakata’s Terrorblade and super’s Vengeful Spirit made quick work of the Dire base, and secured the win. Game 3 saw a vengeful Team Empire, making quick work of the opponent mid lane and gaining from good rotations, again securing a quick advantage. Sides switched up quickly however at the 15th minute mark, where Empire’s experience and gold lead was lost following a series of quick kills taken by iG.V. Thereafter, the kills exchange continued favouring the Chinese roster, and they went on to secure the match, and a top 4 finish at DAC 2017.
