I am 100% pulling an EternalEnvy here. This is my declaration to become a professional. I'm not dropping out of college, though, because I'm not that tryhard (also I'm not in college).
So, about me: I'm 17 years old, and I'm turning 18 in August. I'm a senior in high school and will graduate in June. I plan to get a job when I graduate- something that can pay bills, but that leaves enough time to train daily. I am playing 5 games as every hero right now, making flashcards of items and spells to commit them all to memory, practicing mechanics like stacking and map awareness, and every day I practice last hitting for an hour. I will study until I'm at least 6K MMR, then I will start looking for a team to compete with in amateur tournaments. I'm going to keep working until I'm 23. If by the time I'm 23 (August 7, 2022), I am not a professional, I will give up on my dream and attend college.
Before you ask, I do take school seriously, and I'm not about to flunk out senior year. I already have all of my required credits completed with a 4.2 GPA. (They wouldn't let me graduate early )
I may blog here regularly about my journey, and I'm considering streaming after I graduate. I feel like going about this publicly will help me continually practice as much as I plan to (which is the reason I'm posting this in the first place).
So, glhf!

Best of luck. Cover your back, keep your alternatives open and pursue your dreams.

I recall envy being good when he declared. You probably should consider that too.

Good luck, you'll need it, that journey is a tough one. Envy can be a big inspiration, but he himself said that it was a huge gamble and that he wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
But well, you are 17. Can't blame you if you don't put all your time into school, I sure as hell didn't and I like that you seem to take this serious.

Yeah post your MMR and dota buff! Youll need to know where you started

live ur dreams man, there's tier 1 pros out there who started out at 3k mmr but had a lot of passion and dedication gl hf

Who?
Pretty sure no one who is a current pro was ever 3k.

For sure, everyone who is a current pro was born with 6k mmr amirite

i'm into supporting people with their dreams but i think you should consider your skill currently
cause envy and others didn't start as scrubs .. they were already REALLY good when they started pursuing pro-gaming
it might be a little unrealistic to start going pro with "getting my mmr to 6k" tbh
glhf i guess

You can't do it.
Hope i get in a slacks video where he says that no one believed and he managed to do it and all that.
Also find a better name fam, so you'll be recognized and remembered easily by anyone relevant perhaps.
Make sure you have the right mentality if you want to be a pro. Play to win every game.
And a closing thought 2023 is way too much time, try to make realistic goals in a year time at max.
|
Create a project plan for going pro. If your parents, an uncle or somebody can help with it that would be good. That way you have a goal each month, even each week if you manage to break it down enough.

dammit still no MMR or dotabuff share Come on man! :D

If you just want to win you'll do what's tried and proven, but the top 20% try stuff out all the time. Seeing pubs as a way to improve is probably the right way, winning comes second. Your MMR will improve if you improve faster than everyone else.
I agree though that OP should consider goals in between, when he's still at 4k in 2 years after playing 6 hours a day it's time to give up.

Yeah, i meant tryharding not in meta but in a way to always make plays to effectively win the game. The players that make the most happen in a game are the most valuable ones.
I remember watching EG boys casting OG finals against VP in the summit where they remarked more than once that og had a chance if they still had their minds in that game. They said that only Jerax and S4 were still playing to win. (Ana was unexperienced at that time and vp dominated notail the whole game, perhaps that's why they weren't )

Didn't most recent newcomer process come to top on the back off a few heroes played godly? Sumail storm jerax earth, GH Rubick, wisp, ana invoker? Etc etc? Then you got bulldog ... Seems to me like getting a niche is the way to go

IIRC this guy was 3k last time he posted his account somewhere on here. Not saying its impossible for him to make it, but very very very unlikely.

Yeah seems like he doesn't want to share that with us in the first place And posting intent then ignoring the questions/advice itt doesn't sound good either

To be a professional you gotta have big guts. Everyday you will challenge yourself to continue. Everyday you will have doubts. Every loss you'll wonder if you're good enough. I don't blame him.
|
He was 600MMR in February actually Yeah there's close to 0 chance here I'd say Would be one of the greatest stories ever I mean I've been playing star-craft for ages and casual dota quite a bit but still I got calibrated at 4k first time I did it
I didn't even know 600 is possible tbh xD
|
Wow yeah, give up dude, go study, with 600 mmr you probably can't even comprehend the game. Watch day9 learns dota 2 and improve until you graduate, but that's it.
|
Holy shit, if 600 thing is true, absolutely do not persue professional dota, you simply lack the ability to become a pro. Harsh? Yes but sadly true. :x
