Fantasy DOTA...sort of
https://www.fantasydota.eu
Had an idea to do a fantasy game based on the actual dota heroes rather than pro players
(that way you are not completely boned when your teams pro players get knocked out 1st round)
Only started a week ago, so has been ridiculously rushed. but should work 'fingers crossed'
If anyone wants to play/try it, feel free :D
You dont need to give any email address/personal details. and their's no tracking (except google analytics to see how many people log-on/use it), no ads, so their shouldn't be any downside
Im going to try and buy an arcana to give as prize to top points winner (I won a lot of money on Trump winning election and feel kind of bad about keeping it to myself ) question I have though, if I buy it through the store directly is it tradeable, it seems marketplace things are tradeable 1 week after sale, but I couldnt find concrete info on whether store items can be gifted/traded immediately?

its very basic. you only get points based on picks, bans and wins. that way I dont have to actually parse replays and can just get the data from the web api

Nice idea. Just registered and grabbed a few picks.
Are going to start the "season" with the Boston Major and have transfer windows in-between tournaments?

as its been such a rush job, this will initially literally just be for the boston major.
you'll be able to make transfers whilst tournament goes on (they will take affect after days games are over. so obviously you cant just buy someone whos about to win)
at end of major points, values and stuff will be scrapped.
Ill try and get feedback on what worked well, what didnt. work out future plans from there.

ok just bought
"Fractal Horns of Inner Abysm" TB arcana for points winner
This my favourite arcana so if winner already has it, I can use it and gift them a different one.
Not many people signed up so have a very large chance of winning

seems like a decent idea
how did you derive values for hero transfer costs?

I scraped all the results from summit 6 and latest dreamleague season.
Then simulated how many points under my scoring system they would get.
I gave every hero a default average value of just under 10.0, then scaled their values with respect to simulated points / average points (with a small smudge factor to draw everything slightly closer to the average as obviously those two tournaments aren't going to be totally respective of current meta).

Spotted a bug, if someone adds you to their friend's list you can't add them back because you'll get an error saying "You have already added that friend."

cool thanks. looking into.
edit: fixed
(I also realised that I have made usernames very restrictive being alpha_numeric only. didnt want any nasty surprises/unicode characters breaking everything (python2). have let people have spaces but a bit late now.
hopefully shouldnt affect peoples enjoyment too much )

Made my team, cool idea, congratz.
|
okay so results for today applied
went relatively smoothly, everything seems correct.
If not please report before tomorrow so I can fix.
looks like theres no conflict of intereests with my team winning :D
since when did people stop picking sven? -1 point lol.

Great idea, hope you'll keep it up for further tournaments. How many users do you have?
If I didn't mess up with the backtracking, for the first day the optimal lineup was Warlock-Rubick-Timbersaw-Wyvern-Windranger, 220 points for the exact 50 value.

yes plan to do it again and have 270 users

adding a tab to leaderboards, to be able to switch between tournament stats and per day stats so people who started late or got off to terrible start can still 'win' individual days
will be there after todays games

Top10 spot Happy with my fantasy team so far. Made some adjustments - let's hope I can crack the Top3 by the end.
I like what you've done mate. Good job! If you keep this going you can count on me joining for future tournaments as well.
Keep it going for a little bit, maybe even get some donations if people are willing and you could increase prizes and attract more people as well.

Re-done my team, if I went with this team from the start I would have 398 points T.T
|
trying to have points/rankings update hourly throughout the day today (rather than just once at end of day)
fingers crossed it goes well :D
closed transfer window a bit early...turns out Vp vs Ig at 15:00 means buildup to Vp vs Ig at 15:00 :/

yeah my team is failing horribly.
Next time Im going to try and have reward for daily results so people have something to play for if they mess up terribly first couple of days, or even join late

Just an idea, maybe values for heroes changing everyday would be good, if you don't want to increase player credits (that would benefit players that play since day 1) you could clear teams and replenish the 50 credits everyday.

I agree that it would be good to have some way of recalibrating values, for when it is clear a hero is over/under valued.
However this forces people to repick everyday, which I can see being quite annoying, especially if you wanted to keep the same team.
Maybe just doing it once, between the group stage and the main event might be more sensible.
( For finals day there will be a battlecup page where each user is entered into an 8 player knockout tournament.
for each series, player with most points progresses/wins.
for next tournament, these extra daily battlecups could require you to pick a team each day, rather than just use your league team.
these daily battlecups could be based on hero values that fluctuate with their overall league points. whilst the basic league itself still uses the static hero values calibrated at the start )
