Hey Guys! I'm Pyrocumulus. I'm 16, a junior in high school, and I've been playing DotA for about a year and a half across two profiles, and it's the first MOBA I've played (though I've been gaming for years now).
As most dumbass noobs do, I tried to calibrate my MMR as soon as I hit level 13. I got ~650 MMR, played a few games, then went on to another profile to find my "true MMR." Ever sense switching, I've been too scared to calibrate because 650 MMR goes beyond hell. It is the endless void between reality and fiction, inescapable. However, I still have games on my original account, so I will still log back on. As I was in this account, I accidentally clicked on DotA, thinking that I was on my other account. After I realized what I've done, I decided to roll with it and played a ranked match.
After the absolute shitstorm it was, I decided that I would play more. Instead of running from being shitty, face it head on and try to improve. On top of that, I'm probably going to try to learn every hero while I'm here (All Hero Challenge). So, this year, I hope to raise my 600 MMR to 3K. Of course, I can't play 8-9 games a day (I ain't trying to drop my 3.8 GPA), so a majority of these games are going to be during the summer.
Thinking about it more, I thought why not share my experience with everyone else? We can all face the void together and go from being unspeakably horrible to an average subpar! I'll be making a post every week talking about how I'm doing MMR-wise, interesting moments, little tips I've picked up on, and the like. I may stream sometimes as well.
My first post will be next Monday (2/8/16). I'll try to play at least ten ranked games by then on the account.

EDIT: Here is a link to my stream. I'll probably be streaming ranked games this Saturday (2/6/2016) starting at 2:00PM (Central), so here is a link to my stream.

Oh geez, that is just so bad haha.
I look forward to seeing your improvements, as I'm not really sure what 600 MMR means. I personally started at 2.4k and I play casually, now I'm stuck at around 3k... Hard to break past that point for me just by playing 1-2 games a week.
I used to be pretty hardcore in Starcraft, but University has wrecked me in the last four years, and my gaming prowess has dwindled a lot.
Anyway, good luck on the 3k!

Gl fam, if you optimise your learning you will be there in no time

I would be genuinely curious to see what a 600 MMR game looked like.

I once partied with ~500 MMR players before, it's kinda like everyone just walks around doing stuff that doesn't make you win. No one presses spells in fights, 0 farm on anyone, if you get a kill that doesn't mean you push or take rosh but instead you just walk around some more. I don't think rosh exists at that level. TP scrolls only exist for TPing to a tower after you die. Item builds are as if someone was really really high when they decided on what to build; not even outdated builds like in 2 and 3k but just completely nonsensical builds. Usually they rush brown boots to one massive item (agha or dagon or something). Reflexes are really slow, map awareness is zero, and no one knows how dangerous anything is (by either diving because they don't know they're weak, or not chasing because they don't know they're strong).

learn how to properly farm and you'd be climbing in no time!

ye i played in a stack with 4 <1k players, and yeah it's just players with no sense of direction, poor farming and not using spells. altho when playing with me they try to make more stuff happen which invariably goes wrong

Man I'd probably feel like a God in 600 mmr. My lowly Crystal Maiden would get a rampage!
The best advice I could give is to use one simple easy to use hero like CM or Venge(she could easily transition into core in low tier pubs) and learn the basic fundamentals first. Switching out too many heroes is just confusing, it's hard to know what you're doing wrong.

Yep. In games I have multiple people saying that the reason they aren't farming is because "I'm not strong enough to get kills yet." As someone who mains support, it's super aggravating, so I'm playing core heroes for a while. Also, thank you all for the support (no pun intended). And yeah, it's a pretty unrealistic to goal, but if it was realistic, I would never push myself to achieve it.

Invis heroes are very strong on low mmr since detection is rare and is used wrong when it is there. The previous riki was a true pub stomper where you could just walk up to enemy supports and kill them after diffusal.

You know what is the perfect hero in low mmr games up to 4k? Alchemist.
If you go Alchemist mid, and you get really decent with him, a game where he isnt pressured mid, and most mids that are mechanically skilled enough with their heroes to dominate him and bully him out of his lane, he can easily farm a 11-12 min radiance, and just farm and farm, and solo win the games when he gets 5 slotted at 30 mins in. No hero, can snowball like Alch can if hes left alone, and hes strong enough to solo carry teams. espeically in low mmr where ppl cant even farm well.

Good luck grinding!
I calibrated about 500 points too high, which is its own variety of unpleasant. Losing 3/4 of my games until I bottomed out at my actual skill level was not real fun, but slowly grinding my way back up via actual improvement has been satisfying.
