With Majors coming up, I thought about a way that the community could not crowd fund the prize-pool. But, crowd fund the teams organizations instead.
CHESTS Teams should have a chest each which has 5 sets. The 5 sets should be of heroes the players in the teams are known for, example; Na`Vi chest with Dendi Pudge Set. When you open one of these chests, you only get one of them like how chests currently work. And the rare drop should be something like a team courier for that major.
Although, these chests should are not common. In order to receive a chest drop, you would need to purchase a teams pennant from the shop and watch their games to be able to get a chance at the drop. An alternative would be if you collect player cards and/or player signatures, and put them into the Major Compendium.
PLAYER CARDS & SIGNATURES Before a major, there should be a free compendium in which you receive automatically and able to view in your profile. In this compendium, it will show the brackets, the teams, and player information. The players pictures will be greyed out, and you will need player cards to fill them. But, to get these player cards you would need to buy Team Booster Packs.
Team Booster Packs will give you 3 random players from the team (example; VG team booster pack, will give you VG players), and you place them into your free compendium. Once you have all 5 team members, you will receive the Team Chest. You can stack player cards to receive chests, but max will be only 5 times and the team will be platinum. ( 1x Team Card Completion No colour, 2x Team Card Completion Bronze, 3x Team Card Completion Silver, 4x Team Card Completion Gold, 5x Team Card Completion Platinum)
You can also purchase player signatures in the dota 2 shop and place them on any item you wish.
Buying Team Booster packs and Player Signatures will fund the teams instead of prize-pool. Keeping Major prize pools and TI different I believe would help the scene grow bigger and better for the future. Also, this can help unknown teams who make it into the Major get some sort of backing from the community.
Just an idea

I feel its a REALLY unfair system , because it means Navi and some other west fan fav will get most of the money regardless of how they do , the majors will just be a platform for popluraity contest as you suggest i have to have the compendium to buy the navi stuff for example, big chances that the winner of the major will make much less money then other team with big fan base , and this is not what a competition is about , if you want to support the teams you can buy the merchandise (they sell it with a nice mark up) or donate and register and their streams. there is currently no way around the hats unless valve decides they want to fund it , because as it stands the hats generate so much money for everyone its really not replacble . one less thing ,this is still a crowd funding , because you want us to buy stuff to let the pros get paid.
Sorry for being so negative you have nice ideas that can be used in addition to the current hats buying ill give you that ! but the money coming in cannot be targeted just for the popular teams.... (if its in the majors compendium that is).

help eg/cdec took all my money when im a navi fan heres a solution

If people want to fund their teams, they can send them care packages.
Teams are already selling items in the shop. There will probably be more in the future.

I really hope they come up with something awesome, I really dont want to buy and level up 4 compendiums a year. Though I could use a compendium for a season with chests to buy every major. That would be a step in the right direction.

Anything that gives team owners more incentives to make the most entertaining/star-packed team rather than the best team is bad news in the long run.

I don't think we should fund anything but TI as far as majors go. Valve makes soooooooooo much profit from that, it should be rolled into the prize pools for the other majors. Expecting us to carry the scene when its already generating enough money for valve to pay every prize pool is just greedy.

I don't mind crowdfunding but Valve needs to put up the minimum TI prizepool I think. Crowdfunding for non-International majors should be very simple and limited - 1 compendium + 1 set of 5 items or something. None of this point buying 200$ bonanza from the international.

You're really underestimating the Chinese fans lol, but your points are valid. although, i got most of my idea from cs:go and how they do their majors. so it does work in a way.
also, there are still hats, just you need to earn them or be lucky with drops.

yeah, i also believe majors shouldn't be crowd funded. like majors having 250k is good enough, and also having the chance to qualify for TI from majors is big enough for teams imo.

maybe, but this is how its done in the csgo scene. teams have signatures, and stickers. when people buy it, they go to the players and not prize pool.
also, this idea is just for majors, because the thought of having a crowd funded prize pool for majors seems stupid and not needed.

DotA already has this as well. Skins that are attached to teams and players.
Been doing it since before CS:GO.

I don't think it's good to approach this from the angle of an amount being "good enough" when TI the last two years has been well over 10mil. If TI5 is, say, 10mil (which is probably sort of conservative) and the majors are 250k that means the majors aren't actually doing anything. You're still in the same situation where one tournament dwarfs everything and makes every other event useless, which is the exact circumstance the majors are trying to combat.
I'm more inclined to agree along the lines that Valve should take compendium sales from TI and spread it around the year so that things are more even all around.

If you want to support individual players you can buy their sets/sub to their streams/buy their gear. Support the tourney and you're supporting the players. I think that Valve really needs an ingame system that can replace Twitch for Dota but that's probably a ways off.

the game needs to have a TV coverage for more money
