pubbing is generally a terrible way to meet good players, let alone recruit you might want to start becoming part of smaller communities that have interest in competitive dota i hear this site is a pretty good place to start. theres probably a thread somewhere for recruiting

We had a particularly bad game while practicing for a novice tournament that we planned to enter and 3 of the players raged and left. Ever since i've had trouble keeping things together. The main obstacles i've faced are varying schedules and lack of overall co-ordination really. The biggest problem was timezone differences, I play in Alaska standard time, another player was in Australia, another Argentina, another still in Southeast Asia.

I had problems with schedules when we were all in the same time zone in the same country. I would never try to have a team from different regions unless I was trying to go pro and team mates had similar expectations. Playing random games with people from all over is fine but you want people in the same time zone so you can play pubs, talk strategy, practice lanes while the last person is going to show up. Make sure to have all players real life telephone number. Call them when they don't show up. If it happens too often and the reasons sucks, cut the player and find a new one. There are at least 3k players to choose between (unless you are at the 6k skill bracket).

I live in Colorado and would be down to play some 5 stacks. My MMR is very low at 1800 some. The main issue being that I don't play ranked all that much, I personally find the ranking system to be fairly unreliable.

I once had the same idea that RMM was not accurate, then i buckled down and improved and my mmr rose 600 in a week. I would say try the recruitment thread <link here> and just pub with how many as you can find to grow interest in playing as a 5 stack. Also just add people from pubs that communicate in games, and do this in a positive manner. So if one is vocal throughout the game and does not get mad over mistakes, add them as a friend and inite them to games often.

tmm at this level is bad in particular because you are trying to replicate pro drafts/hero picks/lanes etc without knowing the reasoning behind any of them. my advice would be to grind pubs until you get a stronger grasp on the game. by the time you have reached a level in which competitive dota becomes feasible, you will find it easier to find players who have similar goals to you as well

Well, the trouble is I mainly haven't played ranked due to it being low, I was fairly bad when I started playing ranked, then I improved after some coaching from a friend, but got so frustrated with the bad players that I had to play with that I really don't play ranked and try to improve my mmr anymore.

If you're even remotely better than 1.8k you'd be stomping those games on your own. At that rating just knowing how to last hit and what items to buy will win you the games. Me thinks that you overrate yourself, go play ranked and see how high you can actually get, i mean if you really improved massively after you played your placement matches then it shouldn't be a problem at all, that'll make it much easier for you to find people to make a team with, most people honestly wont take someone at 1.8k very seriously. Saying that you're a 4k player looking for people to play with is 10 times more likely to find you people at approximately the same skill level to play with since people at higher MMRs are typically also where you find more competitive people.

I usually play support, because I can't play core well admittedly. If you are supporting a person who is trying to play beastmaster as a right click carry with no levels in call of the wild, it doesn't matter how well you support, it's a losing game. Or if you are playing with Lion as support in lane, except he's last hitting and taking your kills with his ultimate, it's also likely a losing game, no matter what items you buy.

If you're better than 1.8k(Like even if you're just actually 2.5k skill-wise) you'll make stuff happen even as a CM that'll win you the game. If you're sitting in a lane with a bad carry and just being sad that your carry is bad, you're a bad support. Why don't you go mid and make stuff happen? Why don't you roam and help your offlane? Why don't you stack and pull and just abandon your carry and try to become as impactful as you can? Buy a smoke, gank a lane, help out your more competent allies. If your allies are 4 retards + you then your enemies are 5 retards assuming you are actually better than your team, and then it seems your team is overall way better. Or if you're truly way better than 1.8k and the rating system just placed you too low(Lol) just go pick a simple mid hero and stomp your way up to your true MMR, doesn't matter if you're more of a support player, you will easily stomp mid if your mechanics are even remotely solid.

Even though I can win, It's so frustrating that I can't keep at it for long anyway. I may succeed, but I never want to go long enough to make an impact.
